What Does a P3 Gauge Do?
Thinking about getting a P3 Gauge, but not sure what it does other than read boost? Well here’s what a P3 Gauge does and how it gets the information!
Boost
(through OBD2 port using OEM sensors or with P3 analog boost sensor)
First and foremost, the boost gauge reads boost! Whether that’s through the OEM sensor through the computer, or a P3 Analog sensor for more accurate readings, that’s not all that sets a P3 Gauge apart. What sets the P3 Gauge apart from other boost gauges is the seamless integration into your vehicle’s interior! While some cars have vents that the gauge flawlessly fits in, some newer vehicles have vents that can either be difficult to fit a gauge in or are in a poor position for visibility. That’s where a gauge like the 11th-generation Honda Civic comes in! With a custom 3D-printed housing, the gauge still seamlessly fits into the interior, it just so happens to not be directly in the vent!
Coolant temperature
While most vehicles have a coolant temperature gauge, they are usually a general idea of how hot the vehicle is. With a P3 Gauge, you get an exact number of how hot or cold your vehicle is running in real-time. A major flaw of many stock coolant temperature gauges is that the needles are not quick to update, and your vehicle can be running hot before you even know it. With a P3 Gauge, you’ll know immediately when your vehicle is running hot thanks to live data!
Engine oil temperature
Engine oil temperature is critical for performance vehicles. Oil is the lifeblood of the engine of our vehicles, and when it’s too cold, it doesn’t reach the right thickness, and when it’s too hot it gets too thin. With the help of the engine oil readout, you will be able to know when your engine oil up to temp and ready to rip, or when your oil is running too hot and you need to cool the motor down.
- While some vehicles have this reading, some do not. This is due to what information is available through the OBD2 port. Oil temperature sensors can be added to the gauge via the analog inputs.
Air/Fuel ratio
(can be read in AFR or Lambda)
The gauge monitors your engine’s air/fuel ratio, which can be displayed in either AFR or Lambda formats. This information is critical for tuning and optimizing fuel efficiency and performance, especially in turbocharged or high-performance engines. When running a custom tune, this can be extremely useful in finding out how well your motor is running and if your tune is acting appropriately.
Vehicle speed
(can be calibrated in 1% increments from -9% to +20%)
If your vehicle doesn’t have a digital speedometer, the P3 Gauge can give you what you’re looking for! Have larger or smaller wheels and tires than stock and there’s no way to change your OEM speedometer? With the P3 Gauge, you can change the measurement of your vehicle’s speed in increments of 1%, from -9% to +20% to get an accurate reading to avoid traveling above or below your desired speed!
Intake air temperature
The gauge tracks the intake air temperature to help you understand how your engine is handling air density, a factor that can impact performance. Your vehicle’s engine likes air to be as cold as possible to make the most power it can. When running your vehicle for a long period, your IATs can shoot up, making your vehicle have less power. By having this reading on the gauge, you can understand when you need to make changes to your driving to achieve a lower IAT.
Throttle angle
Wondering if you’re applying full throttle? With the throttle angle readout, you’ll be able to know just how much throttle you’re using at any given time.
Ignition timing
By displaying ignition timing with the gauge, drivers can assess whether their vehicle’s timing is optimized for peak performance or if adjustments are needed. This feature is especially beneficial for performance enthusiasts who want to fine-tune their engine’s timing for various driving conditions or aftermarket upgrades.
Engine RPM
With the digital readout of the RPM feature, you can your RPM digits down to the single digits for a precise readout to see any irregularities in the running of your motor and to optimize shifting points.
Exhaust gas temperature
Monitoring exhaust gas temperature is crucial in performance driving, particularly for turbocharged vehicles. High EGTs can cause irreparable damage to your vehicles in high-load conditions, so when doing something like towing, EGTs are a very important metric you can keep track of with a P3 Gauge.
Battery voltage
Worried that your alternator is dying? Or your battery is going bad? With the battery readout, you’ll know how much charge your battery has down the tenth, and if it is gaining or losing charge.
Programmable shift light
With a programmable shift light, you can set any specific RPM measurement to have the light flash to have a visual notification that it’s time to shift. The shift light is activated no matter what readout you have on your gauge. With the shift light, you have a visual indication of when you should shift that is easy to see in your peripheral vision so you can pay attention to the road.
- Analog input 1 (brown wire) can allow the gauge to read any 0-5 volt linear output sensor
- Analog input 2 (blue wire) can allow the gauge to read any 0-5 volt linear output sensor
- Acceleration timers (0-60mph/0-100mph/60-130mph)
- Ever wondered what YOUR vehicle’s 0-60 is? 0-100? 60-130? With the timers in the P3 Gauge, now you can know! Get different measures when you try different launch techniques, different tunes, and different mods!
- Braking timers (60-0mph/100-0mph)
- Curious to see how well your car can stop? Having these timers can help you understand just how well or poorly your car stops, and if any different upgrades can affect how well your vehicle stops, or how much different weight loads and weather conditions affect your stopping time.
